I’ve been doing Wim Hof breathing for about a year and the result are something that are amazing if you’ve never tried it.
When you do Wim Hof breathing first thing in the morning, I get a boost of energy that is subtle but lasts all day. It’s better than coffee and feels different than the type of high you get from exercising.
It’s a feeling that’s in it’s own category.
When you combine this with cold showers you get another invigorating effect.
I bought the full course which lasts about 9 to 10 weeks. The hardest part was doing the 10 minute cold showers.
Jumping into a cold shower, will give your body a quick shock and when combined with breathing, will help you withstand it.
After doing this for a few weeks eventually your body is able to absorb the shock and you won’t get that “shivering” feeling when the cold hits you. The body seems to adapt in its own way.
1 – spend about 10 minutes
If you want to use Wim Hof and you’re on a tight schedule you don’t have to do the full 5 rounds of breathing.
I just use 1 or 2 rounds and I can still feel the effects.
Just use around 30 to 40 breaths, exhale and hold.
2 – Use contrast showers
Instead of straight cold showers you might try a contrast shower, which is just gradully moving from hot water to cold.
After you spend a few seconds in the cold you dial back down to the warm water. Repeat this a few times and that’s it.
3 – Stretch out
The Yoga stretches are pretty hardcore. The back bends are not so bad, but some of the other moves will require upper body strength.
At the minimum I do the back stretches and leg stretches. If you have your own then that will work as well.
4 – Meditate after the breathing round
The period after you hold your breath and do the pushups–to me is the best part. It will clear your mind and will train your focus on what’s happening inside of your body.
- Spend about 10 minutes for the breathing exercises
- Use contrast showers
- Stretch out
- Meditate after 1 or 2 rounds
